The Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences (JMIRS) began publishing health narratives in 2020, authored by patients and HCPs who described their experiences with radiation therapy and medical imaging. The new format was developed to encourage submissions that include a diversity of voices and perspectives, and to ensure that patients play an active role in the journal. This editorial seeks to describe the impact of this novel submission format from the publications between 2020 and 2024, including the traditional emphasis on citations and beyond.
